TRUST EXPERTS UPDATE THEIR UNDERSTANDING

Trust and estate planning experts are being invited to update their knowledge and improve their understanding in light of recent legislative changes, when the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) stage a mini conference in Birmingham on Wednesday, December 12.

STEP is the professional body for those specialising in trusts and estates, executorship, administration and related taxes, and has invited a leading London barrister Chris Whitehouse, and Chartered Accountant and Tax Lecturer Robert Jamieson, to discuss topical issues and planning ideas.

They will address the changes to the taxation of trusts and the importance of reviewing client arrangements to assess what action should be taken before April 2008. Delegates will also learn more about the changes to the Inheritance Tax threshold announced in the Pre-Budget Report, and how these impact on married couples and those in civil partnerships that have already set up Nil Rate Band Trusts.

The STEP conference commences at 2.15pm and takes place in the Victoria Suite at Birmingham Repertory Theatre.  It is also open to non-members at a cost of £150.

“Our speakers are renowned experts and will enhance understanding of the key issues around the implications of the recent legislative developments and whether clients should revise their arrangements to maximise the tax planning benefit,” says Shona Cutler , a partner at chartered accountants Clement Keys and treasurer of STEP’s Birmingham branch.

STEP members and others who would like further information on the Trust Conference should contact Mrs Cutler on 0121 456 4456.
